What is the CEFR?
In a language-neutral style, the Common European Framework of Reference provides a complete description of learner level by skill. It's a great resource for school administrators, curriculum designers, instructors, teacher trainers, and advanced students. The CEFR is divided into three wide bands: A, B, and C. These are easily comparable to the phrases Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced — albeit the CEFR levels are more accurate (and calls them Basic, Independent, and Proficient). Each of the bands is subdivided into two levels, for a total of six levels.
